The High Line, a beloved urban park in New York City, is gearing up for its next artistic transformation with the seventh and eighth Plinth commissions. This initiative invites public participation in shaping the future of a prominent public art space at 30th Street and 10th Avenue. With a diverse pool of 62 proposals from 61 artists and collectives spanning 37 countries and the United States, the High Line Art team has an exciting challenge ahead.
The selection process, which began in the summer, showcases a wide range of artistic visions. From Nina Chanel Abney's vibrant street art to Michael Rakowitz's thought-provoking sculptures, the proposals reflect a global artistic spectrum. The international advisory committee, comprising renowned artists, curators, and arts professionals, has nominated these artists, setting the stage for an exceptional selection.
One of the key aspects of this project is the public's role in shaping the outcome. High Line Art encourages feedback through comment boxes on proposal webpages and social media, ensuring that the community's voice is heard.
